Nicholas Grafia at Peres Projects
Peres Projects is pleased to announce the opening of Free Verse Spirit, Nicholas Grafia's first solo exhibition at the gallery on the occasion of Berlin Gallery Weekend.
In Free Verse Spirit, Grafia draws from traditional Philippine folk lore in a meditation based on heritage and racialized identity. Grafia explores a hybrid culture: incorporating characters and scenes from horror films, comic books and folklore from the Philippines and United States. Drawing out these entangled histories of US imperialism, Spanish colonial history in the Philippines, and global cultural exchange within the mainstream, these works assemble narratives that have been excluded from official histories and discourses.
